So, it’s been forever since I’ve updated this blog…However, I think today is the perfect day to get the ball rolling!
Today officially marks my 4 year “Natural” anniversary! Exactly four years ago, I decided to take the plunge and cut all of my hair off. That’s right, I did the big chop! When all was said and done, I only had a half an inch of hair on my head. Here’s some vintage snapshots of my hair circa December 6th, 2014. I went from this…
As you can see, I pretty much started my natural hair journey at ground zero. All in all, these past 4 years have been amazing! I don’t regret ‘big chopping’ at all, and am so happy that I decided to go natural. If I could do it all over again, my only regret is not big chopping sooner. Cutting my hair was an extensive learning process, and believe it or not, a journey of self discovery and appreciation. I grew to love my natural hair, and in turn grew to love my true self more.
Of course, I had to record bits and pieces of my hair journey, and did so with a few YouTube videos, and via tumblr.
In my videos, I talked about my first and second years natural, but in all honesty, I failed to talk about year 3. I also didn’t discuss my run ins with hair dye, heat damage, and a sheer lack of styling inspiration.
So, since year 3 went unnoted…I’m deciding to start year 4 a new! This year I’m going back to basics, setting goals and doccumenting my progress.
Hi, and welcome to my blog! For the first post, I decided it would be best to just drive right in! So this week began my 2nd year as a grad student. I decided to do something I’ve always wanted to do…Vlog! I’ve always been a bit apprehensive, yet extremely interested, in vlogging. I’ve avoided doing it for a multitude of reasons, but this year…my motto is #newyearbetterme, so I figured what the heck, lets give this vlogging a try 🙂
This vlog includes Monday, January 8th and Tuesday January 9th, because I have only one class on Mondays and two classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For that reason, I combined footage from the two days.
So, all in all, I can totally tell that this semester is going to be hard work. I’m taking 8 credits, split between 3 classes. This semester, I’m taking the following: Membrane Biology, Proteins and Proteomics, and a Biology Graduate Seminar course.
The really cool thing about my classes this semester is that the largest class I have is about 20 people. Beyond this class, my other courses have 5 to 7 students. Of course, this is a great thing, because it means more indepth discussion and attention from my professors. However, lol, of couse, because the courses are so small, and are heavily discussion based, I’m going to really have to be on my A game. I HAVE TO KEEP UP WITH MY COURSE WORK!!
All of my courses revolve around reading and discussing research articles. So this purely means that I must read every article assigned to me in a timely manner, and also be confident enough, to be active in class discussion.
All in all, this is going to be a busy semester, cant wait to share more! 🙂
